In order to "practice what we preach" the class will be broken up into six groups.  Each group will investigate, report and develop a network based on the operating system or solution listed above.  Each group will have one IP address to share with a small network of computers (using some form of NAT, ICS, etc.).

Monday, February 25:  Please review your groups pages.  I have made some additional comments regarding tasks that your specific group will have to perform.  It is important that each group have their operating system installed with adequate security - including keeping up-to-date with the latest service pack (if applicable) and using the Windows Update feature.  Those of you with the routers will have to install the most recent firmware update(s) to your devices.

I will discuss this in class more tonight, but I have purchased six removable hard drive bays and six sleds.  Each group will have their own 40 gigabyte hard drive to install their operating system on.  You will use one of the lab computers and your group's hard drive.  I have also ordered six SMC PCI Ethernet NICs for your group for your internal network (may not be needed by the router groups).  Each group will have their own 8-port hub to connect to for the internal network.

11:00am - WooHoo!  Most of the parts came in today, earlier than I expected.  Tonight we will play with some hardware.  All I need to show up now are the hubs.  I also need to get some extension cords when I go out today.
