Computer, TV recycling fee bill gets second-round approval
BY LESLIE REED
WORLD-HERALD BUREAU

LINCOLN - The Legislature today gave second-round approval to a bill that would impose a fee on manufacturers to create recycling programs for computers and television sets.

Manufacturers selling more than 5,000 computers or TVs in Nebraska a year would be required to pay up to $20,000. The fee would be reduced if they operated their own recycling programs.

Legislative Bill 986 also would require them to establish programs to take back new equipment sold in the state. If it receives third-round approval by lawmakers and is signed by the governor, LB 986 would take effect Jan. 1, 2009.
